Episode 69: Cannabutter and Edible Cookie Dough

Cocktail hour - what’s on our minds?

Cannabutter - revisiting consumption part two, making cookie dough

Why are we talking about this?

  • Refer to cannaquest consumption part two - G had made cannabis cookie, we were learning how the process works and she was using a magical butter machine, becca was in a teeny tiny apt in Salt Lake and now has a magical butter machine

  • Also, this is not an ad for the magical butter but we are unintentionally promoting it because it is easy to use

  • Back it up - we are baking our cannabis because we want as much of the whole flower as possible - the cannabinoids (thc, cbd) and the terpenes

  • Cannabinoids (THC, CBD) and terpenes (Limonene, Myrcene, Linalool, etc) are responsible for the effects, aroma, and flavors you experience while consuming cannabis and very importantly, they are the activators of your own endocannabinoid system

  • THC - giving you that “psychoactive” response, creativity

  • CBD - giving you everything else - helps with relaxing, helps with inflammation, helps balance the effects of THC

Decarb refresher - what’s happening when we bake it?

  • Baking our cannabis activates that thc and cbd

  • (did you know that older cannabis - the thc converts to cbn and that makes you sleepy)

Reminder - How does cannabis work in butter/food/liquid

  • Good parts of cannabis are blended into the fat of the butter

Reminder - smoking is bad - butter is good 😁

  • No smoking side-effects

  • Higher Absorption rate - 35% for edibles VS 15% from smoking/topical application

  • Longer lasting high 3-12 hours for edibles VS 3 hours for smoking

  • Medicinal benefits may last between 12-24 hours.

General Reminder

  • As always with any drug use - it’s best to practice harm reduction

  • If possible, always be in a safe space when consuming. Being fully hydrated and not on an empty stomach will make a difference in how your body responds and will help with consistency when tracking your body’s reaction

  • Start low and slow - qty and expectations

  • If you start to feel anything negative - have a friend talk you through it, consume some CBD, take a shower (just watch your step!) and eat something sweet and sugary, as sugar actually helps counteract THC. Some people also say that taking a whiff of black pepper or even chewing on a peppercorn can help lessen the effects of a bad reaction, too.
