Episode 10: Buckeyes and Orange Scrub
Dec 10 Written By High Gluttony
Becca and Gretchen make one of Becca’s holiday favorites, Peanut Butter Balls, otherwise known as buckeyes. And then make an edible and luxurious sugar scrub you can gift to everyone that likes sugar!
Gretchen’s Buckeye Notes:
Yeah the powdered sugar thing is important, since the sugar crystals are so tiny they just work right into the dough for your buckeyes. Gretchen needs a more powerful blender, so she can make her granulated caramel into powdered caramel.
Using a non-separating peanut butter is probably a better, otherwise your dough may be slightly oily.
Don’t forget to buy toothpicks if you want to dip yours like a buckeye. Otherwise, completely covering yours in chocolate is perfectly acceptable (Gretchen actually likes it better.)
If you care about tempering your chocolate, you should probably use a thermometer. Otherwise Gretchen recommends the seeding method for tempering because it makes your life easier. But it doesn’t work 100% of the time.
Curious about chocolate tempering? The Sugar Geek Show has a good video about it! Click here!
The sugar scrub is so easy, you could probably make it on a daily basis!
Enjoy Repisode 10!
